Couple Therapy – Embracing Difference and Partnership
I am a Couple Therapy specialist, have a post graduate diploma in Couple Therapy and have run a successful, established Couple Therapy practice in Bishops Stortford for over 12 years. Couples embark on a course of couple therapy for many reasons such as, communication difficulties, no intimacy, affairs, being a step-parent, blending families, addiction and anger issues to name but a few.
Most of my couples are with me for somewhere between 12-18 weeks. Some are with me a lot longer depending on the issues in the relationship that they need support with.
Ideally, we will work together on a weekly basis to begin with, £80 per session. The duration between the sessions at some point may change to fortnightly, every 3 weeks or monthly, determined by how the relationship is evolving and growing with the new skills and the knowledge learnt. Ultimately, it’s your relationship and knowledge and skills learnt in the therapy room, have to be worked with outside of the therapy room.
Marriage – The Prophet – Kahlil Gibran
“Let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone. Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the Oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.
