Some view the need for counselling as a sign of weakness. This could not be further from the truth. Counselling is NOT a sign of weakness. Counselling takes a lot of strength and courage and involves a lot of hard work.
Humanistic Counselling is a supportive form of therapy. Humanistic counsellors create a safe space in which you are invited to share, process and evaluate your concerns.
As humanistic counsellors we see human beings as having an innate tendency to develop towards their full potential. Life events, however, can take their toll and can affect our mental well being, our health and all aspects of our lives. Life events, relationships, trying to please, trying to fit in all have an impact on us and as a result sometimes we lose sight of who "we really are" and "what we really want" This in-turn can have an impact on our physical and mental well being. We may become unwell, depressed, anxious, stressed etc.
At Finding You, in Bishops Stortford our counsellors aim to create a safe, confidential space, within which you can process your thoughts, feelings and the life events that have had an impact on you and taken their toll.
The counselling process will help you to gain clarity, and will support you whilst you explore choices, options and decisions that you may need to make to get yourself back on track. By doing so you may begin to experience and accept more of who you are as a person, and this in-turn allows you to reconnect with your own values and sense of self-worth. This reconnection with your inner resources enables you to find your own way to move forward.
Our aim is to understand the client's experience from the client's point of view, and to positively value the client as a person in all aspects of their humanity, while aiming to be open and genuine as another human being.
Integrative Counselling Tools Used at Finding You Bishops Stortford
We work in an integrative way, which means that we are not bound by the theories, dogma, conventions or methodology of any one particular school of thought. Instead, we use the counselling methods or tools that we believe best suit our clients' needs.
One in four people experience mental ill health at some point in their lives. Mental illness can affect people of all ages and all walks of life and can be triggered by physical, social, environmental and genetic factors.
The silence and lack of understanding about mental illness encourages feelings of shame, and discourages people to seek treatment or even to admit that symptoms they may be experiencing may be related to mental ill health.
Why counselling? you may need support with a difficult experience you’ve been going through, such as a relationship breakdown, bereavement or redundancy. Or you may need support in dealing with feelings of sadness, depression, anxiety or low self-worth that you cannot connect to any particular event. Counselling can also be a means of coping with physical symptoms or complaints that doctors can’t alleviate.
Some people feel an immediate sense of relief when they begin counselling, maybe because they are being listened to for the first time, or because they have been struggling on their own for a long time. Others may feel worse before they start to feel better, it can be very hard to pay attention to difficult feelings and takes a lot of courage to do so.
Our counselling practice provides a private, confidential counselling service for clients who live in Bishops Stortford East Herts and the surrounding area.
