Grief and Loss

 

When we suffer a loss, a process of adaptation and adjustment begins. This process is called grief.

 

Mostly we associate loss and grief with bereavement but we experience many different types of loss during the course of our lives. For example,  loss of friends; when we move or change schools, loss of  jobs. When relationships end we experience loss, when our children leave home we experience loss, we may have an accident which leaves us disabled in some way this is a loss. You are reading this article and I am wondering about your loss.


Why counselling ?


 This may be a time in your life where you need some professional support.  Counselling will provide a safe, supportive environment in which you can talk through and make sense of some very difficult and painful feelings that you may be having.


Feelings associated with loss and grief may include some or all of the following.


You may be in shock, feeling numb, struggling to believe in what has happened.  You may be distressed, you may be in despair.  You may have difficulty in concentrating,  you may feel depressed, angry ,irritable, anxious, very tearful and very sad,  you may feel relieved, you may feel you are going mad.


A counsellor will  support you through the pain of grief,  through the process of adjusting to the loss and when you feel ready will support you whilst you  re-build in order to be able to move on with your life.
